Looking at these brands as they are cheaper than most others?

29er, preferably 2.25+ on width. Need front and rear tyres....

Thanks and sorry again. I'm usually a Maxxis guy but on a budget for these tyres.

What sort of mud tyre? Specialized Hillbilly is a big enduro beast (Butcher works well on the back in partnership)

I've been using the Specialized Purgatorys for a couple of years as a general winter tyre. Seems a good choice for general winter XC duties. It does lack a bit of real steep slop but is general decent and predictable without being too draggy.

Specialized Storm is a safe bet for a proper mud tyre - they do from XC skinny and light to DH wide and tough.

Spec storm control is the best mud tyre I’ve used.

Well you can rule on one out, they only make two tyres and both are a bit cack  in winter.

Put a wanted advert up if you are on a budget.

Yes front and back, although sometimes swap the back for something fast rolling when it dries up. Had them in 26in and 29in.

I run a Butcher 2.3” up front and Purgatory 2.3” on the rear most of the year, tubeless on both my hardtail and full suss. I’ve recently stuck a Hillbilly on the front of the hardtail and that’s hugely impressive on loose, loamy stuff. I’d worn the Purgatory down a bit on the full suss and last weekend stuck one of the new Eliminators on there and that’s pretty good too. Most of my riding is from the door, so requires a bit of road work, then it’s rocky edge of the White Peak stuff with a few excursions into the forest for some much looser singletrack. The Specialized tyres just add up to me - easy tubeless, good quality and performance.

I really rated purgatorys, not a tyre for really bad mud but really good in a UK winter where everything is wet but unlike a well worn XC or DH track actually only a small amount is proper unrideable mud.

I like the Specialized Storm Control.

It doesn't work on my wide rimmed FS bike in 2.0 flavour but the 2.0 on narrow rims is a great tyre for slop, clag and wet loam and sand.

Not great on roots or wet rocks. I've run front and rear for xc/in the hills or as a rear with something more chunky / all round up front (Purgatory most recently).

Well.... Based on price, availability and reviews I've gone for a Hillbilly on the front and a Beaver at the back. Should do the job! 😀
