noticed a few people switching too CX bikes and as their one and only mtb,

Whats it all about?

Reminds me of these peeps riding round on fixies that push they're bikes up hill,

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Wheres the future lie for CX bikes?

Dunno. I've been riding CX since 93. Surprised its taken everyone else so long to catch on.

They run because its faster than riding and its a race.

Sold my last mountain bike a while back.

There's nowt I can't ride round here in the Peak on a cross bike.

I may be a bit slower on the downhills, but couldn't care less really.

Yep, just like you can catch a bus when you run a marathon.

Seems to be a little contradicting, running in a bike race...

Like walking past the obstacles on the Olympic XC course?

I've seen plenty pushing their bikes in Mountain Bike races. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do entrants get penelties for getting off their bike?! You don't see marathon runners grab a bike when things get tough!

No. Quite often CX courses are designed to force dismount at some point and incorporate an element of running - it's about testing the riders' techincal skills. See the National Champs in Bradford last weekend - two hurdles on an uphill section, designed to test how quickly or slowly people are at dismounting and remounting (Nick Craig - poetry in motion, although I did see at least one bloke manage to bunny hop them once).
