Hi All

Going to ride this loop on Tuesday and thought i'd verify which way round stw would ride it ?

I'm human powered - so id rather be riding up roads and double track and coming down the rocky stuff

Is there anything should be tacking on to it - or modifying it for best day out ? - not on strava so old school gpx would be appreciated

Rode this yesterday (Clock wise)

40 miles- it was a bit toasty out there - ended up almost stacking it when i got a massive cramp in front of thigh coming down the castleton descent on the last descent

off to do a cut gate ride today - its great rocky riding up north compared to the smooth surrey hills

Think those images are labelled the wrong way. I'd do the hope loop clockwise, and the white peak loop anti clockwise

If you follow the white peak route you have shown do it anticlockwise. The decent into Chee Dale looks fantastic but I’ve always thought its a bit of an anticlimax. I’m not sure what you are gaining by diverting off the Pennine Bridleway into Horseshoe Dale (Its beautiful but means you are riding along a bit more of the dale section of the A6 which isn’t the best (can be bloody terrifying) on a bike).

Can’t tell on the plot whether you are following the road from Youlgreave to the A6 or heading across Haddon Fields/Intake Lane which give a bit more interest. I like the lane from Lathkill Dale to Meadow Place Grange Farm as a climb (although you would be doing it as a descent) which would link with Intake Lane to the bridal way linking the back of Haddon with the Monsal Trail along the north bank of the Wye and then up Combs Farm to Manners Woods (It also looks like you are climbing out of Bakewell up past the golf course, which is fun on a road bike but a bit of a drag on a MTB) I’d go up through Manners Wood and Carlton Pastures to Edensor (its doable on a gravel bike just a tad steep up the single track section).

Can’t really see which way you are going on the northern section are you climbing High Rake? If you are and you follow my route the only bit which is better anticlockwise is the descent to Chee Dale so thinking about it do it clockwise although you won’t thank me for the climb out of Lathkill Dale 🙂

Thx, will have to fire up memory map and check out your suggestion tonight,  never ridden in this area and the loop I had was what I found on web, nearly at Derwent edge on my current ride, looking forward to ice-cream down at the resoviore

Are we looking at the same route? Chee Dale is a fair bit further west, isn't it?

Never mind, I see - weirdo labelling of Bakewell.

Hi All

The answer to my question in MHO after doing the ride  is most defiantly anti clockwise

Aside from the heat - prefect conditions for ride - no mud and no overgrown trails

i got the route from here https://flattyres-mtb.co.uk/route-guides/peak-district-mtb-routes/derbyshire-dales-and-the-high-peak-trail/

All the major climbs are on roads / dirt track

The ride it self was nice, not great but nice - nice views , a couple of nice descents - nice riding along side streams and rivers.. but not nice enough that i'd go back and do it again... - oh and that climb up on the busy road through the gorge wasn't great - but did force me to ride up it a lot faster than i would have otherwise just to get off it..

After i'd finished the 26 miles i drove over to mam tor and did another 12 miles over that way - that was great riding...
