Are you the sort of buyer that asks this of a shop?

Seems to me...if you are...you want to be "sold something that's "better" than the competition because it's got [insert brand's latest selling point here]?

You probably don't want to hear that there are rarely models that are head and shoulders above their competitors, so try to find something that appeals to you, fits you and rides how you like?

I'd be surprised if anyone on this particular forum asked this in their LBS, although I'm sure they all could hypothesis endlessly about why others might do...

If I was completely new to the sport and had £XXX to spend then I'd probably ask exactly the same question. In fact my last 2 bikes were bought off recommendations on STW, the former was brilliant and the latter is in the post on it's way 🙂

Or are you one of those shop owners who doesn't give people who don't know the difference between XX and XTR the time of day?

I'm guessing it will generally be whatever bike they have in stock in my size slightly above the price range I stated. Maybe in too cynical.

That's not too cynical mate! Can you see a shop owner saying 'Well the best is XXX but we don't stock it'?

Depends, if they're a Spesh dealer then can probably produce a copy of MBR that says which one it is!
