Hi, I had an old Raleigh 26" wheel bike that was not-quite a mountain bike (Much as the grifter was not-quite a BMX). I thought it was a "griffin" but I can't find anything on t'internet about raleigh griffins. It was hideous, frankly, but I remember grey-metallic-ish paint and yellow writing. I'd love to see a photo of one...
Cheers, al.
bomber?
Carole?
mustang ?
Walter?
Walter? How TF can a bike be called 'Walter'?
What a preposterous suggestion...
Just think about it people, you'll cringe when you get it
Doog: you _know_ do you!? Put me out of my misery!

I dont, i cant get Walter Raleigh out of my head, sorry, *grabs coat and heads for door*
Was it actually built as a mountain bike or a BMX cruiser??
local kids rocking up a retro mustang
its black to white with grey fade in the middle and red graphics and is completely original ! InFACt i might have a photo of my boss riding it !
Blizzard?
Edit: Or Lizard even...
sorry it was another very dodgy looking "almost an MTB but not quite" from the same era he was riding ....
a grey peugeot !
but the mustang im thinking of was black to white fade for sure with a red graphic
wooooooooo look at those stays !
was it an activator? the pre suspension one?
Pink Mustang! That was my first MTB! 36lbs of 15-speed Hi-Tensile steel goodness...
MAVERICK! Thanks ziggy! What an awful POS. =)
So, what's the vintage on a Raleigh Maverick? Seems to be 1985. The forum below says
The Maverick was out in 1985 in 5 and 15 speed versions.
Mid 1987 the range expanded;Montage - 501 frame, low end Suntour bits.
Ozark - 531 main frame, sub-Deore Shimano bits (no Exage gorups in those days)
Avanti - 531 frame and forks, full Deore XT groupset.

So, I reckon I'd kill for an original Avanti!

I have a Maverick, with what looks like almost-original components. That Mustang was my first ever mountain bike, followed by a Montage and then a Ravine. Ahh, the good old day when Raleigh made real bikes.
I had the 5 speed version in the mid 80's (still have the frame and forks) and it got me into offroad riding well enough.
That said, steel rims, sidepull brakes, centre ridge tyres, etc made for some interesting stopping moments. In fact wet weather braking was obviously an option box I forgot to tick!
I still have my pink mustang although originally it was my uncles, I think it is the same age as me!
