On my trek 8500 when i put any kinda pressure down on the cranks (usually at the top, oddly, but i guess this could be where i exert most force?) There is a loud banging noise. nothing really happens..i.e. no slipping, but a loud bang noise.
I think it may be something to do with the freehub? Bike only a few months old but has been raced a fair bit...deffo not the bb...at least i think not?
Just seems a really odd noise and not one i've heard before...
anyone got any ideas?
Freehub normally slips if its knackered.
If it's not slipping but clonking-how many crank turns? once? -Bottom bracket maybe? as the freehub tunrs multiple times and should bang all the time unless the pressure is off.
Take chain off or try a spare wheel and see what happens? same? bottom bracket might off?
Take it back to where you bought it, if it lets go in the middle of nowhere(quite likely if it is the freehub, and a good chance it is) then you've got a long walk home.
Easily overlooked but have you tried tightening the pedals? You can get a right old racket just from a pedal being loose.
