Been mulling this over for ages. Wants FS bike. Currently have a very good hardtail which I can do lots on (pinnacle Oromo) however want a FS. I want to do all sorts of riding on it from trail centres (frequently) to BPW (3-4 times a year) to big natural rides in Lakes etc (1-2 times a year) so do I get:

An all rounder like a trek fuel ex?
Or
Do I get something a bit bigger like a rocket/RocketMAX.

The actual brand or model is irrelevant it’s the TYPE of bike I’m thinking about. I don’t want massive overlap with my HT as it is really good on local stuff (Dartmoor) but this dilemma is starting to do my head in!

Cotic Flare, Whyte T130 ??? Will help narrow it down if you know what size wheels float your boat, 27.5 / 29 / + etc

For me the sweet spot has been a 160/170 bike. It only feels slow on the sort of old school XC stuff that I don't ride anyway. It climbs almost as well as a shorter travel bike but is much more fun on the descents.

I had a T130 but sold as feel it is too close to the pinnacle and also to pay for extending my wife’s maternity leave

Yes been wondering about whether best to go what I consider to be really long (160mm+) and use when things get big, but as not often would it be a waste. Argh!

I’ve had my pinnacle iroko for almost 2 years and like you fancied a full sus for trail use and techy riding in borders.

Sonder Evol is what I got it’s ace 🙂

I’ve kept the iroko for local stuff and winter use .

Yea looked at those seem good and good vfm. I think 1st thing is to see if I prefer 650b or 29 wheels, then I can think more about travel and nature of bike. I’m erring towards 29 fs as more different to 650b ht
