I have just stuck with the saddles that came with my bikes but after 140 miles at the weekend on my hardtail I realised my 4 year old specialized saddle is falling apart and I ended up very sore
SO
I understand everyone is different but what should I look for in a new one?
I just want a good all round saddle
one with a brooks logo ๐
I find the speccy bodygeometry range very comfy, so you could replace with another. To get 4 years out of them is good going though - all the speccy's I've had have fallen apart pretty promptly.
As for which saddle suits your arse, it tends to be a bit of a case of trying a few and selling off the ones you don't like.
I find charge spoons great. Not too much padding, plenty light enough, dirt cheap and pretty hardwearing.
Chamois cream is not to be underestimated for v long rides too. You'll get sore whsatever you're perched on eventually ...

like saddles this point is subjective - i find it softens the skin and causes more sores than it solves.
at the time it feels better but you realise when you go for a bath that you have broken the skin - you look in the mirror and see blood !
stopped using it now - but some folk cant ride without it ....
I use assos cream and padded undershorts but last weekend I suffered badly! However it was bloody hot which didn't help! You may be right not sure the cream helped at all (yes broken skin :?)
Spoons seem to be very popular I had been considering a WTB Devo which is going cheap on CRC (and a funky colour!!)
I don't recommend Assos cream...I just completed a 9 day stage race and the only stuff that got me through was Halibut cream! The first two days I used Assos - never going to touch that 'chamois' cream again.
In terms of saddle - fizik gobi xm....no question.
