Mine has a 110mm stem but was thinking of running a 90mm one, will this drastically effect the handling or have an adverse effect on my riding position/comfort?
It's a 56cm frame with Salsa Cowbell 2 bars.
Depends on how big you are, surely. 110 to 90 will barely affect handling. If you need to go below 90 then you needed the next size down.
^ or has short torso and long legs.
I've got a 70 on my 2016 one with midge bars. Not twitchy at all, comfy for me and handles well off road.
Sorry for the terrible photo but here it is in the snow at the start if the Dirty Reiver 200. I wouldn't want a smaller one.

90mm hope zero rise stem on mine (size 56) Much prefer handling of the shorter stem to the stock 120.

Restlessnative what tyres are you running in the pic?
You also need to consider the reach of the bars. That could add or reduce the reach by 20mm.
Stem of 70 with bar reach of 90 would put your hands in the same position as 90 stem with 70 reach bars ( everything else being equal )
wtb nano 40mm, they fit in the 2016 easy, not sure about earlier ones
Absolutely no clue about road bikes as this is my first venture to the dark side ref reach etc, the cdf is a 56cm frame and the bars are Salsa Cowbell 2 bars?
The Genesis bars the cowbells are replacing are 70 reach and the cowbell bars are 76 reach will the change of stem give me a less prone riding position?
