i just got myself some new forks and will be looking to chop down the steerer tube to fit my bike...however, i am thinking about a new frame at some point this summer so i don't want to cut it too short for new bike.
i know each bike is different etc etc, but generally do most modern frames use a similar length head tube? what would be the maximum length you're likely to find??
any advice??
often goes up with frame size, how tall are you?
On new forks I wouldn't personally EVER chop a steerer below 200mm.
200mm will fit anything and it keeps the resale value high.
I would normally use 200mm as the minimum I am prepared to cut to.
But it depends for a start if you are tall as headtubes will be a bit longer on larger frames.
Take a look at frames you fancy and see how much you need.
