Just got a new carbon road bike and im going to data chip it.
Datatags seem expensive at £22 a pop.
Vs
Immobitag seem to do the same thing at £15. Which is also what the local police use (cant use the free bung version in my frame)

Theres also Kriptonitesrsticker version.

What are peoples experiences - are they worth it, have you had a bike recovered?

£22 is too much to protect your carbon roadie? Really? I imagine the chain costs more. Datatags are £18 at Halfords at the moment.

I had a datatag on an old Marin but never had the need to use it. Went down the seat tube so quite out of the way and obviously invisible.

The only real problem with them is that they rely on your getting the bike back in the first place and then its more a way of proving its yours. In my experience, the bike is rarely recovered thus rendering the tag useless.

Its not the money its the system - both datatag and immobilise use almost identical chips. Cant see how data tag justify the extra cost.

Yeah honestly that is such a strange perception of worth.

Buys £XXXX Carbon Road bike.
Doesn't want to spend £22 more to help recovery in case of theft.

Ok fair point, but Ive heard of Data Tag, plus they do car and motorcycle stuff but Ive never heard of Immobilise. So if I had to guess, you are paying for the name/brand. Still, its pennies whichever you go for and my point about recovery still stands. If I were you Id invest in a good lock instead, prevent it getting nicked in the first place.

Lock is of the £100+ 'un-cropperable' veriaty with similar padlock and anchor. But I do a 5 day charity rides each year where the bike is the hands of the organisers.
The bike is a c2w item so not technically mine - its insured seperatly as a result- just thought thatelectronic tagging would be a good deterrent and wanted some real world experaiances.
I think I'll go down the immobilise route at thats what yhe local police use, although I may add also use the kriptonite sticker version as its more of a visible detterant.
