So looks like Signa/SSU are cancelling Athlete contracts.....

DJ Brandt parts ways with Nukeproof

Also noticed that Elliot Heap had his DH bike for sale on Facebook last night.....

So what next for the likes of Continental Nukeproof Racing, Nukeproof SRAM Factory racing?

Hope the likes of Sam Hill, Elliot Heap, Kelan Grant, Dan Booker, Vero Widmann, Ronan Dunne etc can all get sorted.

This might be an enforced retirement for Sam Hill 🙁 Unless he's willing to take a huge paycut I can't see anyone taking him on for what is essentially a pre-retirement victory lap

I imagine a few teams will be trying to squeeze Ronan into their 2024 budgets as we speak.

Ditto Elliot, with his following.

I saw his bike ad too. Bit ambitious on the price, eh?

Agreed, I guess he can afford to chill and consider his options anyway.

Might come back as an "ambassador" for another brand in a while?

Hopefully won't take up eeb racing.

Credit to DJ Brandt, kid's life turned upside down and his message is just pure gratitude and concern for others.

I wanted to make a post explaining why I won’t be riding for Nukeproof anymore so there wasn’t any rumors. I was on a 2 year deal until the end of 2024 but it got cut short due to nukeproofs parent company losing a massive investor. It’s not my fault, it’s no one I worked withs fault. Just the product of some bad business way above any of our heads. I’m heartbroken because I felt like I had landed in the best place working with so many great people, literally everyone I met was the shit, the bikes were great and I was so pumped on the whole deal. They made it feel like a family and not just a sponsorship so shout out to everyone who made this short experience as great as it was, I hope you all find a soft place to land. As for me I’m doing what I can to find a company that I can mesh well with, it’s not easy to do this late in the year but hoping for the best. Pretty damn sad about all this but that’s life and we gotta keep er rolling.

I think this along with GT and GG and i think there's been a few others too... Is just how the industry is going to go for a year or two, i'm hoping that the teams now kind of grasp the need for external non-MTB sponsors more than ever and with Discovery+ and Eurosport giving them a bit of a shop-window, maybe they'll get it working.

Sam has other sponsors who can probably foot some of the bill for another season if he wants to. He’ll just need to keep his bike or pick a new one (or even an old one from his shed).

I did some racing - triathlon, not biking - and had a bit of sponsorship. Not enough to give up the day job (well not full time) but it took the sting out of the cost of training, travelling and racing. I mixed with full time pros though. The overwhelming view/attitude of those surviving full time on sponsorship was disbelief that this was a thing. That it could end any moment. A plan B was always in their back pocket. It was not like a normal dull job - it was a transitional thing they maxxed out enjoying the ride whilst they could.

This lot will be fine. They might have to bow out for a season and do a real job, they might fall back on savings or bank of mum and dad. They might take this as a sign to do something different permanently and just ride bikes for fun again. But they'll be fine.

There are plenty more people, names unknown by the general public, who'll be in far deeper shit....and probably deserve even more sympathy.
