[Closed] What is Schwalbe Addix 'Performance' compund? Any good?

... is it as bad as the Schwalbe 'Performance' compound of old? i.e. plasticy and near-lethal in the wet or anything needing any form of grip?

.... or is it actually a usable tyre compound now?

Only wondering because it's a lot cheaper than the Addix 'speedgrip' compound - and doesn't have the goddamn awful blue stripe that the speedgrip version has.

Hmmmmm...

TBH I'm not convinced Addix means anything at all, I have an Addix and a non Addix rock razor on 2 of my bikes and they perform identically as far as I can tell. Definitely wouldn't buy anything from Schwalbe with Performance written on it, fool me once...

(except Kojaks)

They claims that it is a new compound and better, but they would... Personally I'd get a non-Performance compound for other features like better sidewalls.

@no_eyed_deer - I'm with you on that stupid blue line - trying to persuade myself it won't look too bad on a pair of Jumbo Jims I want to get...

The coloured line has worn off mine (Nobby Nic in speed grip) fairly quickly and isn’t that obvious now. Probably gone at the same rate as the little hairy things that you get on your new tyres.

Not tried their MTB tyres for a while, but I've had some steel beaded CX tyres in active (which is supposed to be even cheaper) and performance guise on my commuter recently and they've been pretty good.

Actually bought another of the 'active' CX Comps as the "performance" Sammy Slick wears too fast (on the rear anyway) and punctures too much. Neither claims to be Addix though. Might pick up a pair of Smart Sam's for the CX bike as I can't face trashing £40 tyres!

Addix Soft is far more durable than the old Trailstar in my experience, I'm coming up to nine months of reasonably heavy use on a new Hans Dampf and it's only just recently rounding off a bit.

Old compound Rock Razor was shot in a few months IIRC, and the old Hans Dampf knobs were prone to flapping off quicker too.

Can't speak to the OP's question though, sorry.

I disliked my performance compound Nobby nic's that were OEM on the Marin.

They were ok, up until a point when they just let go very suddenly. I had a couple of tumbles at places like Laggan and Comrie - changing them just upped the level of control and a much gentler slide out rather than sudden loss.

I am not sure how much you are riding Chaka, but I have destroyed a soft Hans dampf on the rear in 3 months. Great tyre but wear has been awful. My soft Mary front lasted 8 months and the side knobs are ruined. I love the grip the soft compound gives and the fact they roll fast but I’m amazed at the wear rate of my HD (new model not the old one). Side knobs are looking like they have a couple of weeks before falling off and the centre looks like it’s done 0000’s of miles. Think in total I’m up to 300 miles on it. I have asked Schwalbe if they will be introducing the speedgrip as in my experience they seem to last a little longer, but I have not had a response!

Done 800 miles on mine, I'll take a pic of it when I get the chance as it's probably at the stage some people would get rid now.

Only started looking worn a month or so ago though.

Is yours the new tread pattern? Not that it should make a real difference? But mine is. Where and what are you riding with it? Think I have done 2 or 3 races including one in the dales, a load of FOD riding, which is hardly tough on tyres. Oh and a BPW trip. It still has life in it, but is well on its way already. Maybe I’m just hard on tyres, but I don’t believe I am.

I’ve used Nobby nic and Hans Dampf in Addix Performance with no ill effects.
