Hello all,
I'm completely out of touch with the used bike market and looking for some guidance if you could be so kind.

I have a 2005 Kona Unit single speed in the shed which hasn't been ridden for a couple of years, and due to foot troubles I think my my single-speeding days are behind me. Hence looking to move it on without going near ebay.

Any idea what it might fetch, it is an 'eclectic' build:

- Kona Unit 2005, steel frame
- 26" wheels, the front one is Hope 717 on Hope XC hubs, the rear one is a single speed specific wheel
- 32 x 16 setup, White Industries ENO rear cog
- ISIS bottom bracket, but it was an expensive SKF one which has lasted
- Raceface cranks
- Marzochi 2003 bombers
- Bontrager Jones 2.35" on the front
- Panaracer Fire XC 2.1" on the back
- Avid cable discs, 205mm on the front, 180mm on the back (you will NEVER run out of brakes)
- bars, stem, seat post, seat and pedals

Thanks for your help
Matthew

£250-£300? Market pretty tiny though.

2005 isn't retro, it's just a bit old 🙂

friend picked up a very tidy 29" wheel Kona Unit with rigid carbon forks and hydro brakes recently for £250 which was a steal, so about that, the 26" wheels will really limit appeal

I'm in a similar situation. Got a 2000 Jamis something but it's a 14 inch frame. Not worth much but too nice to just give away.

Not worth much as an actual MTB but as a round-town bike or gravel camping bike 26" MTBs from the late 80s to mid 90s seem pretty popular now. A 2005 steel Kona sort of fits in there. If you had a rigid P2 fork on it..

I got £100 for a geared Kona roast on eBay. I don't see why the value of this would be much different.

Is the last of the Platinum OX ones? Makes it a bit nicer than a Roast, if that's your thing.

Small 26" frames definitely at a premium as kids bikes - will be looking for one soon as the 24" is looking smaller every day...

That I would think. Unless someone has fond memories of that particular model you might need to wait a bit.  Maybe store it in a cave or a barn for a while

And if it is, it was exactly the same frame as the Explosif, just a different colour, and the removable/sliding SS dropout can be swapped for one with a mech hanger*, so can potentially can be run geared. Lovely frame, my old one’s still in use somewhere down in Hampshire.

* if you can find one!
