Ive got a cyclocross bike, with 36 and 48th rings, ill be using it mainly on country lanes and towpaths until the weather improves alot. THen in the summer off road a bit more, but only easy wooded paths ( i think).
Do you think a 12-25 tooth cassette would be ok?
If you want a nice easy to ride and useable bike, I'd be tempted to go with a 11-28 or something for the rear.
12-25 would be fine for what you describe, but the 28 could be a useful bail out for muddy rides and steep sections.
36/46 and 12/25 for me. I did used to run a 34 chainring and 27 cassette which was good for proper offroad but rubbish for racing.
um, not gonna be doing any races on it, I'm mainly going to be using it as 'training' bike. I think I will just go for a 25 tooth cassette out back, at the worst it will just make me work harder
12-28 and 34-46. I grovel up things on some days, and some days I fly. The rest of the time I walk with my bike on my shoulder; it's a crosser, right?
yeah, its a bonded aluminium frame from 1995, made by alan, built with relatively cheap parts ( it still weighs sod all) so i dont think it will be up to any real 'abuse' even though it has never been built up before. I just allways used to end up seeing a path on my road bike rides and shooting of down them. THis often used to result in puncture so i thought it would make more sense to get a bike that could take that. I anticipate a 50/50 mix of road and off road
34-28 on my Jake. It's as low as I can go without a new rear mech. Good for most stuff. Never race mind. a bit of a struggle touring with a big pack on....
