Bought some online and it is just plain black. Shouldn't it say 'Shimano SP41' on it?
How do I know if I have been ripped off?
Cheers
Does it say anything on it?
No, just plain black
I'm the same in the same boat - ordered grey SP41 which arrived yesterday and it just has Shimano faintly stamped into it.
I thought it was supposed to have silver Shimano SP41 all along it
Compare it to some you know is SP41
I can't remember if it has SP41 stamped on it and I can't be bothered to go out to the garage to look, but it should be grease filled as far as I remember (fluorescent green grease).
Grease & a plastic liner, that you have to tease open after every cut (or force a cable through from the other end).
Annoying but great stuff
I don't have any cable that I know is SP41 to compare it to.
But the cable I have received is definitely not grease filled so its going back.
From recollection sliding an inner cable into SP41 feels noticeably different to sliding it into vanilla cables very smooth and lubed - don't remember any visible grease though?
Shimano SP41 has a thin white teflon grease running all the way through it, SP40 only has the grease at one end(bought in pre-cut sets, grease at the numbered end so insert cable there)and both will have Shimano logos. Sounds like you have something else.
For the OP, SP41 that comes in factory pre-cut lengths ie. comes with the shifters has SP41 on it, but when its cut from a roll, ie. you order 3mtrs off the web its just plain black.
HTHs 😀
I got 10m from CRC and IIRC it was plain black cause I had exactly the same thought.....kinda figured that CRC wouldn't be down with such shenanigans though!
Thanks - I phoned my supplier and they checked the spool and it was the right stuff. I just fitted the new outers and cables and plenty of grease oozed out of the end.
SP41 with XTR cables has opened my eyes to a whole new smoothness of shifting!! I needed full lengths of outer and this is perfect - why pay £££ for a Gore kit.
