Hi all,
I'm looking at getting a sat-nav type-thingemy-whasit to help me on training rides, so i don't have to keep stopping and getting a map out, especially on the road.
I would ideally like something that:
-Has ability to down load route from computer
-moving map
-turn by turn navigation on the road
-offroad nav to follow a pre-set route
-cycle computer functions (incl cadence)
-Get me home function off road
What are my options? Any recommendations?
Garmin 705 or 800?
satmap?
oregon thingy?
Thanks
Andy
Sat Map 10 (bike) version is excellent.
Has loadsa stats to choose from/look at while you ride(!) but no cadence.
Garmin eTrex Legend HCx is good, does all of that except cadence.
If you do want cadence, I would look at the Garmin Dakota 20. Its much the same as the Oregon, but a bit smaller.
Get me home function off road you'll struggle with, as to my knowledge no one does one with turn-by-turn directions off road. You'll get an arrow pointing you in the right direction, but not much else.
You say training rides, in which case do you want lots of bike functionality as well? The Edge series are unbeatable as training devices IMO, with mapping as an aside, or the Oregon/Dakota are better for navigating, but forego virtually all the training functions. If you want HR/Cadence/ANT+ etc, then the Edge is perfect.
Thanks folks.
Andy
The Dakota has hr and cadence functions if you get the sensors and has 25k, 50k, Birdseye mapping.
Another vote for the satmap active 10 here, only downside for me is that the 1:25k maps are so damn expensive.
I managed to get the 1:50k maps thrown in for free when they had an offer on during mayhem last year though.
