Got an XT gear cable kit that contains all the bits that are currently on the bike and that I want to replace (inner, outer and caps) but what are these for please ? (not the cable end things). Thx a lot. N

If you run interrupted cables they go on the ends of the outters between the spaces.

They are to give a better seal on the cable end.

The bit with the long thin sticky out bit fits in the cable stop (like a conventional end cap on an outer).

The other bit slides down from the other side of the cable stop over the thin sticky out bit.

If you take them out of the packet you will see the sticky out bit slips snugly into the rubbery bit.

Edit as per poster above only relevant if not got full length outers.

Especially useful on open cables at chainstay or seatstay near the rear mech and close to the bottom bracket (basically the max filth areas).

they are for interrupted (ie traditional) outers. The rigid part goes on the cut end of the housing and you poke the thin bit through the cable stop on the frame and then slide the rubber bit onto it to act as a seal.

Thanks guys - so for confirmation the hard one with a thin bit coming out is in fact a replacement for the conventional caps ? It was confusing as the kit came with 5 pieces of pre-cut outers all having 1 conventional cap at each end.
