Hi,
Looking to get my 1st full suss soon.
Currently have a PA with 140mm floats on and am entertaining the idea of swapping everything over to 2nd hand FS frame.
I mainly ride around Dartmoor, try and get over to Gawton and ride HSD, trips to wales and other trail centres.
once or twice a year i'll enter a bit of a race, newnham 60, bristol bike festso after something that I can get around on.
Peer pressure and far too much thinking luring me towards 5" bikes. For my budget and sizing [6'] frames such as:
Trance x,
Meta 5.5
Prophet seem to hit the mark.
In my mind, the Trance x is lighter and will cover the mile better, a Meta 5.5 is the more Gnarr option
Or either going to be 'just fine' and I should stop thinking about it so much?
Opinions please?!
Dont/didnt the metas have frame issues - trance x gets great reviews but for me its.....
Pace RC405?
5Spot
Hustler
Epiphany
Covert
metas crack IIRC. I own a trance x and like it. Would buy a large if i were you, I ride a medium and im 6 1, 6'2ish ( but i bought the bike when i was 5'5)
Are there many RC405's around 2nd hand though?
Mojo?
Orange five
5 spot
Pitch if your on a budget
Prophet
Zesty
You shouldn't go far wrong with any of the above.
metas crack IIRC.
some 08s and many 09s did, the 2010s are solid frames.
I ride alot of Dartmoor (not yet got to Gawton ) and do the odd trail centre trip.
My FS bike of choice is my Orange ST4. 4" of travel - so not quite what you are looking for, but its worth considering
Have previously owned a stumpy FSR and a Pitch. ST4 is just better than my stumpy in every way, and I find it better than the Pitch for most of the riding I do
Without wishing to hijack your thread..... I have a 405 for sale in really good condition here: http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fspace405-xcam-pics
Santa Cruz Superlight with 120mm forks.
Thanks for advice all.
Alex, I why you riding the ST4 more than the RC405?
Are meta's really that prone to cracking? I rode a number of bikes around a car park yesterday [really fair test i know], MEta 5.5, trance x, fuel ex and zesty a- medium. I have to say that medium was fine on all bikes and the Meta felt like it wold be the most 'fun'.
Just goes to show you have to try things out.
Drifting James, gawton is worth the trip. HSD is great super tavi really needs a massive bike and big balls. Where are you based?
The 405 was bought with Peaks/Scotland/big trips away in mind. Living here (Malverns), I don't need all the travel esp. as it's built with pikes/2.4 tyres/etc.
I demo'd an ST4 to prove to myself I didn't want one. But found it really suited me/my riding so I bought one anyway. And I don't do the trips away as much as I used to so the Pace is pretty much unused.
When I do ride it, it's still ace. But I prefer my ST4. Can't really say why, maybe because I've ridden it 1600ks this year and the Pace < 100k!
yeti 575 mates got a large silver one for sale think he's looking for £475 posted 2007. Why's he selling? He's just bought another 2007 in team colours .If you want more info let me know and I'll contact him he's not on here. By the way just had all bearings done and an air can service Fox dhx shock
Transition Coverts are ace*
*I only had a car park test, and the Fox 36 float kashima FIT RC2's may have clouded my judgement, allong with the hammershmit and the magura brakes, and the titanium chain etc etc etc ......
Felt kind fo like I wanted the spesh enduro to feel when I demo'd one, so maybe its more to do with the fact that the spesh AFR/e150 shocks are crap.
