Just a local bimble today, mostly tarmac. Anything offroad was a filthy shit-fest.

Anyone else been out?

No pics.

Eldest_oab spent the day ripping around Ae black, red and DH with pal.

Middle and mini_oab did a local 15k road loop with me - chuffing cold, all froze hands and feet, but lovely bright weather against snowy mountain backdrop.

First ride of the year for me, kept it simple with a 14 mile local loop.

One that I didn't post up on the Bewick Moor thread ..a little misleading as the ground conditions were in the main a slop fest..and the weather quite grim sleet & hailstone on the last leg ..

Although a lovely day at drumlanrig, conditions under wheel were hard going in places.
A super greasy blanket of leaf mulch, sticky mud, pine needles and a whole forest full of Vaseline coated roots.

Should get out later this morning (feels a bit odd typing that) for another gentle local virus recovery ride as the weather looks good. Cold but good.

No pics, took a trip to Afan, The Wall was in great nick bar a short diversion, cold by bearable. Finished with an ill advised lap over to the other side for BlueScar, ran out of legs suddenly, cold got to me and it sucked for a bit, still enjoy the descent though.

Rode at ‘the mast’ in Inverness for the first time on Saturday. The locals said that it was as wet and muddy as they can remember. It was actually really good fun in a, I’m on the edge of control, kind of way.
I don’t think my washing machine was impressed.

Yeh I'm just about ready for it not to be cold anymore. The difference between riding at 1 degree and below and above 4 seems enormous, so much more comfortable above 5 degrees.

Yet another doorstep ride. Nothing remotely approaching a technical trail around so down to the beach at low tide for a ride around the rocks. This smooth bit appears to have been skimmed. Commuter bike has become favourite bike at the momemnt. SKS Chromoplastics proving quite indestructable!

Tried a new 40 mile loop from home but there was so much mud around Cranborne that the wheels got jammed. Ended up carrying the bike for a mile or so then spinning the 15 miles home on the road.

Feeling a bit under the weather so bailed on a planned lakes ride and stayed local. Crisp and sunny, but should've spent more time out on the frozen moors instead of in the woods - which were still a bit sloppy and sticky.

Took my son on his first "proper" mountain bike ride, the two easy blues at Lanhydrock. Our plan is to progress up to doing all the Lanhydrock blues in an afternoon, and then I'll let him have a go at Bodmin Beast across the road in Cardinham.

Big (and frankly, stupid) fall at Gisburn on Friday on a day's leave, so the Saturday and Sunday planned rides didn't happen as I couldn't really put any weight on my left knee.

All seems to be healing up now and I'm walking and driving OK. Hopefully be back on the bike next weekend.

Veloviewer has a new (well new to me, at least) feature, showing the biggest cluster of connected map squares visited. So, I've been filling in blanks on the map.

It's quite addictive. My biggest cluster is around Aviemore but I've another developing around Inverness - Nairn - Elgin. I reckon a bit of exploring around Tomatin will consolidate them.

Point the phone at the moving object, tap the screen and you get AF tracking lock then snap away.

Yes, I know what you mean. With the "largest square" challenge I was always left with squares that don't have any trails and drew the line at hiking for miles across the heather with the bike on my shoulders just to visit a square. But with the "connected cluster" I can see lots of fun ways of joining together areas where I ride to make a larger cluster. Now I've just got to decide whether it is "cheating" to grab the road bike and connect bits that way 🙂
