Morning All

I was stripping the cranks off my SS to give it a service as it was a bit rumbley after the recent gank weather. When I took it out I noticed this wear on the axle.

Is it this going to cause me a mischief? the cranks are LX M580's and about 5 years old.

looks like the BB is partially siezed and the axle is spinning in the bearing/top hat thing.

if it were me I'd sort out the BB, refit the crankl and keep an eye on it.

The BB had been fine all throught the snow until we had rain. The next day it was rumbley which is what led to the service.

So far I've stripped the BB, removed tophat and flushed the bearings with IPA to clean them and then repacked with grease before putting the tophat back on. Anything else I can do?

I have the same marks on an XT crank after a seized BB, my BB was beyond saving so fitted a new one, re fitted crank and forgot about it til I saw this thread.

As long as the bearings in the BB now turn freely you should be fine.
