As our summer seems to be typically wet i was glad i though ahead and bought an Altura (react fabric) jacket for those damp days. Thing is is its usless -not impressed with Altura at all having used several bits of kit now. Anyway, that said im again looking for a jackt that actually does what it should, Endura pefrerably. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

stealth if you can afford it.
Not the warmest but super waterproofness and breathability. When mine is very muddy I wash it using the hose pipe at the end of a ride whilst still wearing it.

What's your issue with the Altura? I've heard reports of bad sealing around seams on some, but mine is superb. It's sweaty of course but there's not a fully waterproof jacket that isn't unfortunately, breathability can only go so far. The Altura's not the best out there for that but it's not an awful long way behind . Basically unless there's something wrong with it, if you're finding it useless then there's nothing out there that you'll be happy with.

Wet summers are hard to dress for really, warm and wet is a terrible combination. I just go with a waterproof gillet usually, and let the arms get wet and act as radiators.

i got my purple Altura jacket really muddy today after riding through a man-made forest (top secret)haha ....anyway its brand new only worn once, but today it was extremely mud splashed...... i sponged mine down and didnt throw it in the washer ..... how do you guys wash ya jackets if muddy to hell....
it does say on the washing instruction labels NOT TO USE 'biological powder'.. (i guess you have to use something like fairy washing powder then to get it clean....
if you do use biological powder : does this mean the waterproof gets stripped from the jacket (then jacket is ruined ?

you can reproof with graingers or nikwax.

If my coat gets dirty I leave it to dry, then brush off any dirt once dry. I then wear it again in the rain and it magically gets clean 😉

Interested in this too.
Silly question, but is a dedicated waterproof necessary? Aren't there some waterproof softshells around?
That Rab looks good.

A friend has a Endura Flight which he says is "ace".

On a similar vien, i am also after some waterproff shorts. I have seen a few threads on here saying that army surplus gortex trousers, cut down, are the best thing out there. Thing is they are all bloody camo! Goretex for £15 cant be bad...
