We will be in touch
Hi all
I'm off next week for a couple of weeks roadtrip starting from Vancouver heading down into Washington State then east to Montana and back up into Canada and Banff (flying out of Calgary).
I won't have a great deal of time to ride but would like to get at least one in... not having time means I'd have to hire out there.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best places to ride/hire between those places? Our route isn't set in stone yet but is likely to take in the national parks etc.
Cheers
You'll not be a million miles away from Kicking Horse and Panorama resorts. If time is limited they're probably your best bet to get some decent riding, both are lift served. I hired a few bikes in Golden BC, there are plenty of bike shops there, I can't remember which one, maybe Summit. I found the staff in all the shops more than helpful with info on where to ride locally. my top tip would be hire some armour and ride within your limits.
Kamloops and Kelowna might be a bit out of your way, I never got to them but they have massive reputations as biking towns and are supposed to be surrounded by some of the best trails in the world.
I would say take highway 2 east from Seattle on your way to Montana and stop for a few days in Leavenworth Washington. You can do just about any mountain sport here including some phenomenal riding. Check out Das Rad Haus for bike rentals and the free map of the local trails. The hotels, restaurants and bars are also excellent. Another option I would highly recommend would be to take the North Cascades highway accross the mountains and check out the towns of Winthrop, Chelan and Stehikin. They are all resort towns that are excellent bases for riding and other sports.

I've skiied at Kicking Horse a couple of times so don't know what it's like in Summer. I can tell you it'd freak the 5het out of me trying to ride down some of those slopes 😆
Sunshine, not far from Banff is our favourite ski resort in the area though I don't know if they do biking in the summer. I'd be surprised if they don't.
Canmore is outside of the Banff National Park and a quick interweb graze came up with this site
If you stop off in Seattle there are plenty of trails in the area; Tiger Mtn, Grandridge etc. check out http://evergreenmtb.org/home/index.php for info and help. Duthie Hill Park is a great purpose built play area (xc trails and a lot of woodwork/jumps) and will keep you occupied for a good few hours/day.
I rented a Giant Trance from the http://www.montlakebike.com/ shop in May. Helpful guys, marked up a map with some hidden stuff. Also saw Turners for demo(hire) in http://www.velocevelo.com/ Issaquah.
