[Closed] Warranty?? Threads on RACEFACE ATLAS FR cranks

Went for a ride last night and my crank came apart and I lost my chain.

The cranks are Raceface Atlas FR and less than a year old. The cranks were refitted last weekend because I went to 1x10. The cranks were torqued up as per the manual with a calibrated torque wrench and spacers were as per the manual.

It looks like the treads have stripped and resulted in why the cranks came apart.

I have taken the cranks back to the shop where I brought them from and they are sending them back to RF but advised more than likely this will not be covered by warranty.

Anyone had similar issues and what has been the result from Raceface.?

Many thanks

don't quite follow what you are stating

lost a chain and the cranks came apart? to lose a chain means it broke/snapped

which thread stripped - frame/BB/bolt/crank?

doubt this is manufacturers warranty - so don't get your hopes up - sorry

I am presuming the threads on the inner of the through axle have stripped leading to the drive side crank arm comming off?

Never heard of this before, with my Atlas cranks i tighten them up till i can tighten any more then have one last go to be extra sure they are as tight as tight can be. and then i put the reverse thread cap back on.

if they were assembled correctly the thread will not 'go' - the onyl way to get the thread destroyed is to cross thread the bolt during assembly.

Having said that, RF cranks can repeatedly come loose if the splines on the drive side crank arm are damaged or worn.

Thanks for the replies

Sorry, not a very descriptive post from me. Probably lack of concentration as pi$$ed off at the thought of buying new cranks.

On my cranks there is a bolt on the drive side that screws into threads on the axle (fixed to none drive crank). This pulls the cranks onto the spines on the axle securing the crankset together. The threads in the axle have stripped causing the bolt not to be held in place and the crankset separates under pedalling load resulting in the chain dropping. With the crankset installed as per manual, surely this should not happen and falls under warranty? I definitly did not feel any cross threading when installing and the bolt screwed in easily untill the final torquing down.

I've never torque wrenched mine, I was just told to do it as tight as possible with a normal allen key and it'd be tight enough and they've not come appart, even after losing the bolt.

Hard to see how they could be faulty or how you could cross thread it so I'm confused.

Look upon this as an opportunity to ditch shitty RF designs in favour of (still awesome) Shimanos
