Just bought a Wahoo Roam replacing my Wahoo Bolt. Should I uninstall the current app on my phone for the bolt before I add the new app for the roam?

No, just remove the device inside the app and pair the new one.

Hi @lovegoinguphills

After you've had chance to use it, can you feedback. I've just changed from long time Garmin user to wahoo bolt and I'm considering upgrading to the roam but slowly getting used to the bolt and phone interface for navigating etc.

Would love to know what a difference its made.

Thanks

@damascus Just to throw some confusion into it. Wahoo released an upgraded Bolt yesterday with more storage and a colour screen. Minor changes to the buttons at the bottom of the screen too.

Irritating, I bought a Wahoo b/w Bolt only a few weeks back and spent a lot time trying to justify the extra £££ for the Roam with its colour screen, but in the end went for a Bolt. Now the Bolt looks much closer to the Roam... Its a great computer but the nav isnt great (still tend to use my Garmin Edge Touring if I have no idea of the area I am going)

@damascus I've no experience of the Bolt, and my old Garmin was a 605 so I can't really help with comparisons, but I do have a Roam and am very impressed. I bought it mostly for navigating long road rides and it makes life a breeze - the night before I ride I create a route in Strava (using Google maps satellite images to check that lanes are rideable), then pull it down to the Roam.

Before setting off, select the route and press start, it'll give you turn by turn directions with a good amount of notice before a turn. You can set it to beep and/or flash LEDs to alert you to the turn so they're hard to miss, and show the route on a map so you can check which turn to take etc.

If you miss a turn for some reason (I occasionally put a bridleway in by accident) it'll re-route you. You do need to be careful with the re-routing as it will try to take you back to the closest part of the route to where you left it, so you could take a long detour and then go backwards to pick up the route rather than re-joining at the nearest point.

Once you've finished the ride it'll upload to Strava automatically. If you're into chasing KOMs and segments (I'm not) you can set it to run live segments, so will tell you if you are ahead/behind on that particular segment.

The colour screen is good but I never really notice the colour to be honest, it's very subtle and used only where it makes sense (for example blue to highlight a reroute).

Hope this helps.

Wahoo have a 30-day no question asked return policy so you could send it back and buy the colour one.
