So the gf has an old Raleigh shopper very similar, if not the same, as this:

I was hoping to get a lamp that would fit on the metal attachment at the front, as the old one is knackered. What are my choices? Ideally there would be a modern light that is still being made to fit this, but a quick internet search is showing that this is unlikely. Help! 🙂

The only ones I can remember with that type of fitting was the eveready ones, loads on eBay. More up to date retro style lamps are available if your prepared to use a different fitment or make some type of adapter.

Just found this , might be of use.

ebay downunder is full of chromed lights for hipsters and the cyclechic retro cruisers - mostly ex china/taiwan/hongkong but here is a nice german one (probably made in china) google retro rather than vintage

or as said above the old ever ready, exide and cat eye (i believe) will fit and come up on ebay and you can get rechergeable D type batteries

or this site is worth keeping an eye on for the odd jewel in the no wonder it didn't sell range

Haha! No problems there, I actually really like they way they look. Prob cos I'm a Brompton fan I guess, plus all things 70s/80s look so cool right now. Thanks for all the tips! Actually had another go at trying to fix the old one, looks like it's working again...for now!

Aaaegh. Can't believe I used to ride through winter using those things.

And they ate batteries, big heavy ones.

Oh the joy of riding with big heavy lights that could barely illuminate the white line at the side of the road, never mind anything else - batteries would only last a couple of hours. I thought my 1W halogen light that use 3x D-size rechargeables was a revelation.
