Does anyone use rocktape on here?

I have friends who use it for running and we talked about how it could be used to relieve the aches / border line cramps I get at about the 4-5 hour point in a ride.

any experiences?

thank you!

The few moderately serious medical opinions I have read on the stuff suggest it is utterly pointless. Simply pulling at the skin is going to do nothing for the muscles underneath.

Oh, should also have added that cramps are most likely the result of a lack of minerals (sodium and potassium most common culprits) or conditioning to the severity or length of rides. Sticking some tape on your legs will do nothing.

Most cramps are due to folks going out and riding beyond their limits ime.

Lol

Typical attitude of people these days . Want to do it now , dont want to wait . Dont want to train/save/queue must do it now.

If you train by riding shorter distances faster and also work up your distance on long rides youll find you get less cramps on your long rides.

You wouldnt just pop out and bang out a marathon without training would you - youd expect cramps if you did.

after doing enough long distance, multi-day, 200 milers etc etc my fitness is fine, just exploring all options for raising performance!

Find some where that can give a descent sports massage. Over time muscles get knots (basically points where the muscle is permanently contracted) and start to hurt due to toxin build ups. If your muscles are all tied up its not going to do your performance (or general physical well being) much good at all.

Also what sam says up there.... maintaining hydration and getting the balance between fluids and minerals right (experiment with sports drinks). Backing off a bit might also help as muscle fatigue is also a factor.

Should have also said that a full stretching program would help.

thigh cramps are a good indication that your riding outwith your fitness. you can also of course be fit as a fiddle for long distance but riding at a much higher pace than your used to which will bring on the cramps.

unless of course you have underlying issues - tape isnt going to cure them but its a good obecalp
