I keep reading conflicting advice on the internets - some saying the spacing the same, some say not, some say not enough to make a difference

Not sure i used 8 speed shifters with 7 speed and only had an indexing shifting problem in the middle of cassette
I think one gear will be a crappy change but have never tried
Obviously you will loose a gear no matter what you do so may only have 6 gears when finished
