Possibly a daft question - I’m thinking of upgrading my XTM8000 twin pot brakes to 4 pots. Is it as simple as upgrading the callipers and keeping the levers? Is it that simple or am i missing something? TIA

Not missing anything. Just the calipers need changing. Although you may find a deal on a complete brake set.

I’ve done this, with SLX levers and had to change the hose, it has some sort of metal bit on the caliper end.

Makes a big difference changing to the 4 pot caliper - worth every penny

i use 4 pot on the front and 2 on the rear, this was partly due to getting parts, but actually I like the feeling.

You could just swap the front caliper and see.

new pads all round though!

We have done this with both XT and XTR and used Saint callipers. This was pre four pots been available through the range. We used the same hoses but needed different banjo bolts to make them compatible. I think if you use the XT 4 pot calliper the bolt is the same

Worth seeing if you could sell your XTs for the price of a new pair of Deore 6120 though.

They were cheap again on CRC/Wiggle recently but maybe sold out now.

Yes, all Shimano levers and calipers are compatible, you just need to check that the hose fittings are correct.

So do I.

Levers are the same, the hose end depends on the model and the banjo's are different lengths (for the banjo'd ones) but should come with calipers

I just stuck some 6120's on the HT and so happy I put a set of the ebike. although they use BH90 hose and olive they are a straight fit rather than banjo... (£50m an end for one set and £60 for 2x front for the others and used a old lever and hose) can't tell the difference from 7120/8120 in use
