Hey all, I've got a GT Avalanche 1.0 which is a nice (not so) little bike, but I'm thinking up upgrading to a lovely steel steed, namely the Genesis Altitude 30.
I only got the GT 6mo ago but I've realised I pretty much want to upgrade everything! I want a steel frame, lighter smoother fork and a stronger wheelset. My plan is to sell my entire bike as it's not in bad shape and then just buy a used altitude as it seems to fit all my criteria 🙂
So is this a clever way of going about upgrading or is there a cheaper way of doing it?
Is there a different bike you think I should be looking at? I fancy a trail-worthy hardtail that I can ride for hours on singletrack, give trailcentres a blast and occasionally go a bit nutty and attempt things I shouldn't 😛
Also how would you value the Genesis altitude if it looked in pretty good shape aside from some cosmetic damage to the chainstay, I don't know what price to offer!
Never mind, bought the altitude 30 for £523 which was comfortably below my max bid.
Funnily enough, if I sell my old bike for £350 then I've just upgraded everything for the price of a set of used rebas 😀
Happy dayz .....
if it's got the spec as above, you've got a cracking deal 🙂
nice one
p.s. pics or it didn't happen 😉
Great deal!! I bought mine last year for a lot more than that (sale price thankfully) but I absolutely love it!
I ride very similar stuff to you, by the sounds of it & its handled it all really well. Lively on singletrack, loves downhilling & capable of taking a real thrashing :D. A great all rounder.

Just upgraded the bars to 750mm Easton Havocs & it now feels even better 🙂
