So, have gone from 160 back to 180, and front 180 to 203.

Have bought the necessary adapter, but encountered a few issues.

First, I'm using the adaptor from the front (all are post to post), on the rear, it has an "up" marker. Which way do I align this?

Second, when I unscrewed the bolts off the fork mount, I didn't realise they would be different size bolts, one is longer than the other, which goes where?? They are Shimano brakes with the butts with the two weird spacers, bit like the Avid ones were......

Also, do I need any more bolts? Two came with the 203 mount......

It's doing my head in, and want to fix it myself, not relying on LBS.....

only the 180 has the different bolt sizes because they only use one bolt to attach both the caliper and the mount to the frame/fork. it also has the cup/cone on the screws. The bolts from the front will be fine on the rear. the front 203 uses two sets of bolts, one for the caliper and one for the mount and they are both the same size.

The 'up' marker will point towards the seat tube of the bike.
I'd use the different length bolts on the front with the new adapter; they are probably like that to allow for clearance on the fork mount.
If you already have adapter an on the bike that you are just replacing, you should have enough bolts. You most likely need 2 sets each end, one set for the adapter to the bike/fork and one set for the brake to the adapter.

Thanks for the replies. Should have also mentioned, the bolts off the fork won't go back in. And the bolts off the back aren't long enough as there is now an adapter in the equation where there wasn't when running the 160..... Thoughts?

Also, which bolt goes where on the front? Can't remember if it's long at top or what?!? Too much Xmas cheer (brandy!!)

The assembly should look like this

Use the bolts that came with it.

I have fitted a 203 rotor at the front and you have to get the bolts the right way round . The bolts that come with the adapter are to fasten the adapter to the fork . Your original bolts , which have a slightly longer head are used to mount the caliper to the adapter . If you get them the wrong way round then they will foul the caliper .Arrows always point forwards or upwards .
