the 2.35's. more width.

although you do get differences between manufacturers so make sure you check them out first.

also, check your frame clearance just in case i.e. giant anthems are kinda struggling above 2.25 schwalbes.

He makes a good point, if the tyres touch the frame they will soon rub a hole in it.
Ask other riders localy what rides best in your area.

define aggressive

on big rocks you'll be able to ride more aggressively with fatter tyres; in thick mud it'll be the narrower ones that let you ride more aggressively

Not that simple. Firstly, and we'll discount this in a minute, I bet more agressive roadies use narrower tyres - but then I'm not sure exactly what more agressive means. I suspect that you mean going faster, through rougher terrain, on poorer quality surfaces - yes?

If you're big and heavy - probably 2.35, spread the weight a little
If what your riding is firm but lumpy - probably 2.35, lower pressures accomodate those lumps
If it's firm and grippy - probably 2.35 but depending on your size and weight it may not mater much
If it's loose but firm I'd go large but others might not.
If it's soft on top but firm betneath that - narrow can be better, more mud room and cuts through to the firm stuff better.
If it's just plain soft - who knows, possibly big to spread the weight, possible narrow for the mud room

But rest assured you'll always have the wrong tyres on at some point on the ride

hmmm, well a mixed terrain for the majority of my rides, grassy mud, gritty , cobbly lanes some tarmac and alot of gritstone moorland rides.
but mainly enquiring about places like 'Lee quarry'.... what tyre pressures should i have for this place , if anyone knows..
"mountain king 2.2" tyres is what came with my bike... ive never rode with these tyres before... ive had 'maxxis high rollers' and 'kenda tyres'on a previous bike.

What Bez said - try a range of pressures and see what works, if you're light and/or smooth you can get away with lower pressure than if you're heavy and/or clumsy.
I reckon on 2.2" tyres for most of the stuff I ride (Peaks mostly plus a bit in the Lakes now and again) but go narrower (about 2.0 - 2.1") for XC racing.
For mud there's 2 schools of thought - big wide tyres to "float" over the mud or skinny tyres to cut through to the harder surface below. I go with the 2nd option there, 1.7" in mud. Or I just stay in bed, my default bad weather option... ๐Ÿ˜‰
