Ardent 2.25 LUST. Ace in the Peak. Or HR 2.35 if you want something toothier, but mostly the Ardents are good and biggish, Dark Peak where it tends to be rocks rather than mud anyway.

Yep, rq's, seem a bit more pinch resistant than maxxis too for the rocky stuff

Fat Albert evo 2.4 are big

the 2.25 are smaller, obviously, and a good all round trail tyre

I've run them in the Lakes, local and Alps and they've never let me down.

Jon, how you finding those in the wetter parts ? I found them lethal on win hill.

Agreed though Rubber Queens or Ardents are nice and roomy.

Noticed at the weekend that my hardtail wioth Advantage tyres stuck well to the rock but didn't go so well in the mud where my mate on the old WTB (Maybe velociraptors) found the opposite.

+1 for RQ 2.2s (although if not desperate I'd be tempted to wait and see what the new MKs are like)

I find them okay front and rear on the Pig, though you need to watch the front in the soft stuff. On the Pace, I've still got a Minion DHF on the front, the rear's mostly good, though slides a bit when it's soft under wheel, great on rocky stuff and slurry, low tread blocks wear slightly rapidly. Minion DHF front and rear, the 2.35, good for all-round use. The Minion 2.35 is about the same size, slightly smaller maybe, than the Ardent 2.25, which is irritating, and there's no LUST version so running converted on a Flow rim, which is fine.

I tend to work on the basis that most Dark Peak riding is a mix of rocks and gritty slurry rather than proper mud and just take it easy on the rare bits of slidey mud. I wouldn't be using Ardents in the White Peak over winter mind and I'd be wary of them, say, on some of the grassier stuff around Bradwell for example.

It's that funny, transitional time as well. A lot of trails are still dry cos it takes a lot to really wet out a lot of our local stuff. Anyway, enough tyres, more riding ๐Ÿ™‚
