Need to replace both shifters after kielder killed them. Looking at the possibility of using twist shift figuring that there is less to goo up/go wrong.
Anyone use them? Pros/cons
Cheers
I use one for the front mech - great
I imagine it might slip under yr hand if things were REALLY muddy but never been a problem for me
I ride them on all my bikes - much stronger than normal shifters which can disintergate in a crash in my experience.
Gripage is fine if you wear gloves - only worn grips x washed bike x shifting can prove a problem - a bit of mud and grit no problem.
If you are using shimano mechs then you will need the Rocket or Attack models.
I use them and have done for years. The only think I have done is smash the windows a couple of times. This is in about 10 years and across 3 or 4 sets, all of which are still in use. I have some vintage rockets from about 2000, various X9 and XO from the last 3 to 8 years.
Solid, reliably and pretty bomb proof.
SRAM XO 9 speed front and back.....no complaints, normal shimano stuff just as good though!
Well I took the plunge. £50 for a pair of X0.
🙂
Use them on my hard tail. They're ace, but it's a pain fitting the brake lever, shifter, poplock and bar end on the bar
Yes.
Pros - feather light , cheap as chips, near-zero chance of breakage in crash, extremely intuitive, ability to trim front mech with left hand shifter, uncluttered bars.
Cons - *scratches head*
PS. There is pretty much zero chance of twisting them by accident - they take more force to twist than would be possible by chance. Your index finger will be covering the brake leaver most of the time anyway. Happy days.
I have them on my Iraq bike.
The brand is called Sun Rise. How cheap to you have to be to try and pass your kit off as Sun Tour???
Oh, and not surprisingly, they're crap.
X0 ones are ace, have them on all the bikes. If it's properly grotty you can just pop a zip tie round it to improve grip. I've never needed to, but you can!
And 10 speed ones have been spotted at Champery too, excellent!

Gone back to them (X9) a few months back on my main bike and fitted them to my wife's machine too now (she had small hands issues with reaching triggers.
Can't ever remember accidentally shifting (as mentioned above your hand isn't really on the shifter unless you need to shift).
Light, unobtrusive and IMHO look better than triggers or thumbies.
slainte 😀 rob
Ace, just so long as you don't get anything prior to ESP...

Oooooh, really? Smashing.
I love my 9-speed X0s, they're brill.
Gf got them on her cheap apollo. Brilliant for quick shifting! Just drag the whole thing almost a whole rev and voila! Didn't realise there were high spec ones!
I have some 9 speed X0 ones and think they are excellent. Perfect shifting and have never "ghost" shifted.
About a year ago I bought some 9speed XO's because they were cheaper than thumb shifters. Fitted them with Cut down Ergon grips.
I cant imagine using anything else now, ridden all the usual trail centres, various wild trails in all conditions and simply cannot fault them.
Had them for 3 years now, faultless and I have no idea why trigger shifters were invented. X0 are the only ones to get though.
how do you change gear and brake at the same time with these things?
ability to trim front mech with left hand shifter
I got some 9 speed X0's, but the LH shifter only has 3 positions, so I can't trim the mech! I was most aggrieved, had to set the mech up properly after all.
I have the x7's on my fatbike....ace...nice clean, sharp gear change everytime.

That's odd - mine can be used to trim the mech as it has loads of 'clicking' points between the 3 positions which move the mech only a tiny bit. Maybe a newer version?
Absolutely ecstatic regarding the 10 speed ones being spotted - I have only just switched to Gripshifts and was worried that once I will inevitably be forced to switch to 10 speed I would not be able to use them. Not that this guarantees they will be put into production for the public, but it certainly increases the likelihood.
Edit: also forgot to mention the ability to shift all the way up or down the cassette in my list of positives 🙂
Edit 2: Confirmed: http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCWhatsNewDetail.jsp?article=9852

Yes, I helped Marsdenman fit some new X0s to his bike the other day and noticed that his LH shifter didn't have the multiple stops on it that my X0s have. Odd.
i used gripshift untill very recently when i finally graduated to 9 speed.
the jury is out untill winter riding commences to see if the triggers stay.
I've used the 9 speed attack on my hybrid for about five years now, and they're excellent. You can get ergon grips in shorter gripshift size to go with them, which make a good combination. Only issue I had was the 'Amy' grips on the attack were too small for my large sweaty hands, so I changed them for the XO grips - yes the grips are interchangeable even tho the XO shifters themselves SRAM only, and the attack Shimano only.
Considering changing the SLX trigger shifters on my hardtail for attack now, specially considering CRC are selling a pair at the silly price of 17.50 !!
Got X0 ones on my On One. Love them
I used them for years and had no problems. Like 'em on the whole.
If I was using a front mech I'd use gripshifters, particularly for the ability to trim the mech.

Yeah, I was surprised, I have an old X7 one with the multiple clicks. It was cheap from Merlin...
I assume you need to run a SRAM rear mech to use XO twisters or similar?
SRAM make twist shifters for both SRAM mechs and Shimano mechs. The XO is for SRAM, but the Attack is for Shimano.
thanks
