Morning all,
After much reading I have narrowed my list of new gravel tyres down to to these which appear to offer a good combination of speed, control, grip and strength for my riding. Typically this involves my gravel bike being a glorified commuter, mainly covering roads, footpaths, river paths and forest roads and getting distance in when the woods are awful. It doesn't need to be able to cross a swamp as I have mountain bikes for that sort of caper. My leaning is towards the Thundero HD (which is potentially down to the name as much as anything, unconscious bias anyone?) although can't seem to find any in stock in a tanwall.
Is anyone here using them and if so how do you fins them and where did you get them from?
Not using the Thundero, but my (tanwall) Speedero’s have been good as a commuter/dry off-road tyre. Quick on the road and grippy enough as long as the dirt is fairly dry
I'm using the even slicker Continental Terra Hardpack TR in 50mm flavour.
It's really quick for such a wide, comfy tyre. Feels like a supple casing and surprising amount of grip. On roads and smooth tracks it's brilliant thing in all weathers so far. As soon as there is mud it does surf around, but that makes it fun...Usual high quality Continental tyre IMO.
I picked up a set of Schwalbe G One Allround 40's from Halfords when I was in there for something else. It was a bit of an impulse as while they get pretty favourable reviews for the type of riding I use my FR for, I really fancy the Thundero HDs just can't find anywhere with any stock.
So fast forward to fitting them yesterday and despite them being bigger on paper, they are definitely narrower than the stock Panaracers. So I'm going back to the drawing board and looking for 44/45mm.
What I'd like is Tubo Thundero HD tan wall in 44 but nowhere seem to have any in stock. One place had them in black and emailed to see if they could get tan wall last week but as yet no reply.
Thinking that I might end up going with the nine HD version after all.
