Bought Triban3 from Decathlon.
Gears much too weak for me -
8SpeedTriple:
Front 50T-39T-30T.
Rear 12-26T cassette.
I would like to get rid of all ChainRings, and replace them with a single 54T Front Ring.
Replace rear cassette with 11-34T, and just use [say] gears 2-7 on it, to avoid over-stressing the chain.
Is this possible?
And what else [if anything] would be needed for a shop to do the modification.
This is my first post.
I just cycle myself - nice 17 mile route - as fast as possible.
I [think] I am pretty fast.
Just get a 54T chainring and fit it yourself.
Stronglight 130mm BCD are £14 + £4 delivered from Spa Cycles.
You can leave the others on, or remove them and get a set of single-ring chainring bolts. Front mech and cable can go too, but you will leave the shifter if it is integrated with the brake lever.
54x12 should be hard enough....
Your 8-speed cassette and shifter would both need to be swapped if you want 9-speed, as well as the chain, so the expense spirals for negligible returns.
You can get a 11-** 8-speed cassette from CRC for under £20 when the time comes to change.
Fit a 9-speed KMC chain when the time comes too, they are guaranteed to work with 8-speed components and weigh less.

Thanks for that Paul.
Actually ordered the 54T Chainring from Spa this morning.
Happy with 8Speed, so no worries there.
Thinking about it - would I be best fitting the 54T in the middle position [discard outer, middle rings, keep inner], as that would keep it centered with respect to the cassette?
And if so, would I still need single-ring chainring bolts [as there would be no Outer ring]?
Fitting it in the middle position would be perfect for alignment, but your chainstay may get in the way of a 54T.
You will also have to remove or raise the front mech for a larger 'big' ring.
You still need the thinner single-ring nuts and bolts.
