[Closed] Trek Owners - Remedy ABP Pivot Play - any advice?

I've been feeling a bit of wobble in my back wheel. Got down to it, had a play, took the wheel out (it's fine).

But there is movement in my abp pivot. I.e. where the chainstay and the seatstay meet, there is a pivot, with a bearing either side, and a threaded nut that goes from the mech hanger to a nut on one side, and from the dropout to the nut on the non-drive side.

But where the two stays meet, there is play, on both sides. I.e. with the nuts done fully up, I can hold one in each hand, and get play both away from eachother (i.e towards and away from the other axle side), and up/down/left/right (even slightly rotational).

I cannot tighten my abp bolts tight enough to prevent this play. The bearings are all fine, well greased, and the seals sit flush.

Any thoughts?

Not sure what you mean by rotational play (surely it should rotate?) but does it still happen with the wheel in?

When you say the bearings are fine, are they free from play? If you grab the bearings inner race with you thumb and forefinder and try to move it by rotating your wrist is there any play?

You can't grab them because there are bolts through the middle.

Yes, the problem is not that I feel it "should" be fixed, but because when I lock the wheel all up, put the bike on the ground, I can shake the wheel back and forth and get a large amount of lateral movement, which is from the two stays moving independatly of eachother.

are you sure it is the abp pivot? i have had to replace the main pivot bearings as they do wear and the symptom was the back end feeling loose.

Hmm. Got the bolts out of the bearings, and they are fine, but had to knock with hammer. But it seems the abp hardware inserts (hanger on one side, sleeve on other) are siezed fixed in the stays. Have WD40'd to unsieze and will try maybe with heat and impact but.

Real shite.

Well, I don't know that the abp pivot is the exact cause of the movement, but I know that there is movement consistent with the wheel wobble in the abp pivot, so it makes sense, no?
