Hi,
I have just been offered a great deal on a new EX8 from my LBS, however its still more than i realistically wanted to part with. He also offered me the same discount on the EX 6. Now my question is, is the better spec on the EX8 worth spending the extra cash (£240) or would getting the EX 6 and upgrading parts myself be more cost effective?? After all its a lot of money to spend on a bike, all be it bike of the year.....
Thanks for you help in advance.
EX 8 is better frame too isn't it? was on the 2008 models.
Hey go with the Trek ex8 as it's a better spec. Also it would cost more at a later date to upgrade! Enjoy the bike whatever your decision.
I'd go for the 8, which is what I've got, I just think it's better value.
If I was going for new now it would have to be the EX9 for the bolt thru fork, makes a mind boggling amount of difference. I fitted as an upgrade and it cost £300 2 years ago.
With the cost of components and general bike stuff at the moment I would go EX8. You would struggle to make the ex6 as well spec'ed with the spare £240
Yes.... You get a better fork.... better rear shock... and the frame is the latest incarnation (with tapered steerer)... All these things can't really be upgraded easily. Certainly the rear shock with DRCV is fantastic, and not available as an aftermarket upgrade.
i bought an ex7 and wished soon after i bought an 8!!!
Wicked guys. I have got my heart set on the 8 but wallet on 6 so your comments are helping me justify it. OOps just realised, the difference between the EX6 & EX8 is £360 not £240. Sorry. Does this alter things?
In reply to timraven: I would love the EX9, but more money still, maybe one day...
Hi shanta, yes can't quite stretch to the 9 myself at the moment.
All the above comments still apply IMHO
The QR15 upgrade is well worth it, when you can afford it, I just changed the lowers and the front wheel. The bike is fantastic anyway, I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever one you choose.
It just depends what you want
I got last years 6.5 lightly used (ridden once £800). The only thing I wish was better was the fork. But £360 is alot for a fork upgrade, more than the fork?. The frame and rear shock are better but the cheaper frame and shock are fine for me
What are you riding at the moment, where and how often
Realistically how long are you going to keep it? You get a life time frame warranty so I'd say go for the 8 if you are keeping it longer than 3/4 years.
