Is a 4" FS too much around Bristol area with Ashton Court as being the main place for off roading. Would a steel hardtail be a lot better with 5 or 6".
A short travel full-sus will be utterly out-classed on the gnarl-fest that is the legendary Ashton Court Timberland Trail. Only a long travel hardtail will be able to tackle the mixture of gaps, drops, precipices and switch-backs that make up the unforgiving terrain of that region, rightly known among locals as "el camino del muerte".
rightly known among locals as "el camino del muerte".
Is this Timberland in Mexico?
Mexican is simply the only known language which can convey the full gravity of the forbidding horror that lurks in those dark, root-infested and precipitous woods.
So something like a 456 with 150mm on front. Would a 456 take lyriks at 160mm
With the Lyrics at 150mm, yes - you stand a chance of survival. With them set at 160mm, you will surely over-stress the head-tube, causing catastrophc failure and death, alone, in the dark woods surrounded by the mournful sounds of the wind and the phlegmy coughing of black squirrels.
ok 150mm forks then. what cheapish and 2nd hand forks at 150mm
Orange Crush with the 140 Float R?
maybe looking to get a 456 and a 150mm fork (marzocchi) for £350
Simon...I ride Ashton Court/Leigh Woods on either a Zesty or Handjob. Both are great in their own way. When it's dry the Zesty is great over the roots and ruts but not so much once it all turns to mud. Thats when i tend to use the Handjob more.
A Handjob in muddy woods sounds divine.
BigDummy - lovin' your work.
The fs frame (mongoose otero) I got is pretty crap. The rest of the bike is good. So prob a reason to go back to HT
Why, in the name of God would you want to put 150-160mm forks on a hardtail?
