Hi all,

I’ll be taking part in the Étape du Tour de France from Bourg d’Oisans to Alpe d’Huez on Sunday, 19 July 2026.

I'm flying into Geneva and heading towards Grenoble so looking into whether public transport with a bike (box/bag) is achievable?

I've looked into specific transfers for the event but they appear to be only included as part of a package with accommodation (which I dont need).

Any guidance would be much appreciated please.

Thanks!

There'll be about a million people flying into Geneva, many with bikes.

Last time I did that journey (for Etape), my bike arrived fine, my mate's didn't. Turned out it was on the next flight but that meant us hanging around in Geneva airport until midnight. If I did it again, I'd plan to go out at least 2-3 days earlier to avoid the massive rush. Same with the return, come back a few days after the event. Oversize baggage area was rammed when we flew back the day after the ride.

Car hire is your best bet but get it booked sharpish cos it'll be expensive and demand will be very high. We had a decent little SUV thing that took two bike boxes and it saved all manner of hassle with taxis and public transport. Also worked really well for getting us back from the finish although the event next year obviously has a very close start/finish location.

Little llama lives in Grenoble. They prefer Lyon because flights are cheaper and the trains are better.

5500m climbing, looks like a long day, good luck!
