Transition Sentinel V1 alloy - What coil shock?

I took the plunge with the sale on cascade linkages, but am now struggling to find shocks that will fit.

Believe it'll be 205 x 57.5 trunion shock which is a silly size not many support.

I've had a look on TF Tuned but all are out of my price range.

What are people running/what options are there?

You squeezed it in?

I've got the newer Rockshox Super Deluxe on mine. It's a 205x57.5 trunnion. Great shock by the way...

There is a couple of month wait on them at the moment(from the distributer) unless you find someone with stock.

hahaha, remember the e2e is the same just the stroke length which has been custom tuned.

however users from the PB forums state they are using the link with a DPX2 and they didn't bother with the coil. may be an option as well?

Ohlins ttx if you can tolerate the price.
Amazing shock but you have to ride it like you stole it to make it work the best

I’m pretty sure my cane creek Kitsuma is 205x57.5 with a shortened stroke on my v2. Most of the shocks just have clip in plastic spacers that go under the bottom out bumper - technically mine is a 65 stroke but has 7.5mm of spacers under the bumper.

I think the Fox dhx2 has screw on spacers that go on the bottom of the shock body to do the same thing.

Not sure about the other brands.

Ohlins listed in the size you state here:

Looks like there is a rockshox option too:

The following article suggests a DVO Jade X can be reduced to 57.5mm stroke with travel shortening clips - you can get a Jade X under £500

I'm using a super deluxe from Bike Discount. Worked out cheaper to buy from Germany and pay the fees than any UK based shops.

https://www.bike-discount.de/en/rockshox-super-deluxe-coil-ultimate-rct-standard/trunnion-transition-sentinel-2018

With a couple of coils as well, I think it worked out at about £350 all in.

Yeah I had a super deluxe ultimate (previous model) on my V1 Sentinel with CC link. Way better than the dpx 2 it replaced.

Cheers all, just what i was after so i can start keeping an eye out.

Think i'll see how the DPX2 rides with the new linkage first (may have just blown my shock money on a second hand Solaris).

Really tempted by the bomber but would prefer a climb switch.

Also need to get my head around what sizes i can squeeze in there with spacers/smaller stroke. Had not realised that was a thing, mind blown!

I did the "I'll see what the link is like with the dpx" thing for a few months...

Don't bother. Just get a coil straight away.

Link and coil instantly transform the bike into what it should of been.

Again to praise the Rockshox Super Deluxe ultimate. The climb switch is really good. Near enough locks it out.

@survivor would an ordinary rider notice the change if you added the coil and link as this thread is making thnk about investing on the link?

+ 1 for RS Super Deluxe. I am using a 205X60 shock rather than a 57.5 and using a 2.5 travel limit spacer which I bought and then cut a slot in to fit it to the shaft. Nothing has exploded and I did not die and I did Boltby bash on it last weekend.

The difference from the DPx2 was amazing, so much smoother but holds up really well too without blowing through the travel.

The more modern fox ones can very easily have the stoke shortened, the older ones (like mine) are a bit more involved and need shaft clamps, if it’s too much for you, any half decent suspension service company should be able to do it for you.

I expect most others will be the same, internal spacer with a strip down and service.

The DVOs have external spacers that I believe can fit rockshox…

There used to be lots of info on the transition forum on mtbr if you can dig it back up

I know the alloys have less clearance than the carbons but lots of people over shocking them with the CC link, maybes worth seeing the chainstay bridge - seat tube clearance and seeing how much room you have to play with…

Fwiw , I’m on an XL carbon, with 60mm stroke, 62.5 was too close for comfort and no chance with 65mm

Travel adjustment on the DVO Jade and Jade X is by different offset lower spring cups meaning it's dead easy to change.

I wouldn't like to say but my experience of the dpx on the stock link was a constant fiddling of settings. You'd think you'd got it then another ride it would feel off again... Rinse and repeat.

With the dpx and cc link, at first I think I felt a difference but the fiddling soon started.

Couple months later bought the coil and first run it felt amazing. Have barely touched it from that initial setup.

For context I'm no top end racer but I do like to push on and can get down most stuff pretty quickly... Say top third if and when I do a race and I put some effort in 😂
