Yep - someone has finally taken a photo of some of my self proclaimed mad skillz ๐Ÿ˜€

I had such a good day I am heading back on Friday with Haddock. Just waiting on a text to see where we are going, but he may actually come up with something the other side of the M6 so I may have to wait before returning, although I quite fancy Helvellyn some time if anyone is interested?

Some good piccies going on there ๐Ÿ™‚ Bogtrotters looks like a fun club and the kind of bike club I would love to ride with (I went to one cycle club and swore I would never join one again) good work guys.

a lot of people on here seem to make similar comments - I think it's a natural human thing for groups to become cliquey and then see everyone else as 'other', however in the Boggies it a tradition to welcome all comers and concentrate on the riding

You have nearly bottomed your Rebas out crossing the river/stream. Looks a lot shallower than i expected for the amount of rain we have had

Hobo

Yep - they are still on their factory setting - no idea if I can get more travel etc out of them as no real idea about altering them despite buying a pump with the intention of having a go. They seem ok for my type of riding which is rolling along enjoying the scenery type riding. Maybe I still have a bit more weight to lose huh?

As for the Bogtrotters being a friendly bunch, I can say yep, they are all a great bunch and very welcoming and patient!

I know that crossing and there are some fairly big rocks in there if you hit it at speed (I have been over the bars in it before). Just kidding about the forks

Ah phew - I tend to be more of an appreciator of the countryside than of technology.

Yeah - I did think it best to get a bit of a run up to ensure I had at least some momentum to get me across to make up for any lack of skill or balance ๐Ÿ˜€

Looks a great ride. My brother has just bought an apartment in Keswick! On the 'MustDo' list ๐Ÿ™‚

Is there a good way of avoiding the initial ride along the A591 out of Keswick? Dodd Wood??

yes, I had intended to go that way if the newbies hadn't turned up. Go R at the wooden bus shelter about a mile after the A66 roundabout. Turn L at T junction and look for Allerdale Ramble on R. When the track becomes incredibly steep, look for a stile on the L into Dodd Wood. Follow wiggly track which joins a fire road with a spectacular view of the lake, going SO. Take R fork which swings round the hill and climb to the R up fire road till you see a narrow path on L down to cross valley. On the other side go across fire road onto excellent singletrack, always keeping R (and high) at any junctions, till a steep push (above Dyke Nook) brings you to a BW to Barkbeth Farm. This adds about 45 minutes to the ride, but is well worth the effort!

you can also go via Threlkeld.
Start behind swimming pool and ride alomg track to Threlkeld. Head up to Blencartha outdoor centre. Follow track all the way up valley, over burn/beck, up along the side of a wall/dyke and turn left onto the track alongside Blencrtha hill back to Keswick via Latrigg. Misses out the big climb via Whitewater Dash Falls.

here's a map of the section: (click for bigger)

IMO it's worth going right round Skidder, and Candleseaves Bog [not a bog] and the Caldew crossing are great fun too :o)

Just browsing through your pics and liked the one of 'passing rider', you should have asked her to join you, she looks fun, not!! Then again if I was riding along minding my own business and a stranger pointed a camera in my face I think I might scowl/frown too! Ask her to smile next time, she's got potentioal

...and there's always the option of going over Skiddaw rather than around:

Well there you go. She was gutted she had the bf in tow as she had missed the chance to ride the SFB love train. Wooowoooo.

Or maybe she just thought some perv was snapping her in revealing lycra ๐Ÿ™

she did actually smile in the next shot ๐Ÿ™‚ If you wear revealing clothing, you will be stared at - it's quite natural. So long as the observer doesn't make pumping fist gestures or thrust out their hips there should be no offense caused...
