Crazy. I avoided the spoilers and watched the ITV4 highlights after the footy. Incredible!

Back in work today so couldn’t watch it live, almost got through the day without seeing the result but even knowing that cav took the stage I almost shed a tear watching the highlights then!

heroic stuff!

Spent all day avoiding spoilers so I could see the highlights, only for a stray tweet to give it away.
Didn't matter though - what a finish and his interviews afterwards just showed absolute class.
c'mon Cav...3 more for that ultimate crown.

Come on Cav get yourself over those mountains and on the podium in green.

I don't remember Cav having such a low cadence in his sprint before - really noticeable. I think I turn my old legs over faster than him. I wonder what chainring he had on

it did look like he was turning a big gear! (though not overly different to those around him) It would be nice to get a GCN tech vid of his bike.

Didnt think he would make it back to elite level sprinting, but i am so glad he did. Never seen so much admiration from the peleton for a stage winner before, which was a great thing as well.
The 3 man leadout was awesome, all gping like trains then cav hits the send button and boom, plus 5mph.

Wonderful. Still got it, not just the speed but also the craft and the nerve.

A couple of times, at a roundabout a few km out, and then in the final open up of the sprint there was a tiny gap he had to go through. If his nerve wasn't 100% still, I can't imagine being able to do it, the threat of crashing and being injured again, etc.....

I think it was Millar said that watching Cav in any finale, there's no cooler customer, he's almost on autopilot, there's no decision making at all, it's just instinct. And if there's a tiny bit of him that is wondering wtf he's still doing it, then those chances go. So even if he isn't quite as quick as he was, getting into the right place when it counts could well see him add to that.

And agree that it seemed the whole peloton seemed to want to file past and tip their hats.  I so hope he gets to Paris and if he does, I'm sure a few wouldn't mind contributing to his lead out if they haven't got their own sprinter by then.

Sorry, mild thread hijack here, but can someone remind me where to find the decent highlights please? Last tour I remember finding some about 15 or 20 minutes long which were great, but all I can find now are 4 minutes long, which are hopeless. I just can't remember where they were...

ITV4, they are an hour long though.

Cav was great, it wasn't a simple sprint at all.

Is it his last ever win? If it was then it would the perfect bplace to do it as it is the same place as his first ever tour win.
But he'll (and myself) want more obviously.

Great race so far 👌

Am I being a thicky? When I look on ITV hub for catchup highlights, all I can find is the actual race?

Yep, they don't make it easy.  try this - https://www.itv.com/hub/tour-de-france/1a7000a0305

Go to schedule, 1 day back (or whenever), ITV4 at 7pm (it's always 7pm)

ITV have had some technical issues with their hub in the last 48 hours, so that may explain why you could not find the highlights program.

Pete Kennaugh commented that this time last year faced with the gaps and risks needed to be in the race, Cav would have hit the brakes.
Does indeed look like he's back, what odds on him winning another three/four now?

Thats pretty weird. On my phone app its exactly like your screenshot and the highlights are easy to find. On my TV the app looks very different and try as I might even using search terms tour de france and highlights it only offers me each full stage...how annoying. It didnt do that last year

Yup, if you watched him in the previous year, even when put into the right position by Bahrain it seemed like he didn't have the GO... not physically, but also not mentally, to put it on the line..

It seems he's certainly found that again, there were split second decisions both yesterday and recently that make or break the sprints, a nuance of yes/no and left/right and he is certainly back in that game in full effect now.

Just to clarify.... Cav's first tour win was at Chateauroux which was stage 5 of the 2008 tour.

He won at Fougeres on stage 7 of the 2015 tour. That was his 26th win.

They finish at Chateauroux again on stage 6 on 1st July.   Can he do it again. I do hope so.

I've still got memories of watching him roadside back on stage 18 of the 2018 then rushing back to the house to the TV to see him take the win in Brive for victory number 22.  Happy days.

On my Samsung TV the highlights are all at the bottom of the list, full stages at the top, rather than chronologically as broadcast (full stage 4,3,2,1, highlights 4,3,2,1)
Confused me at first glance as you can't see the highlights without scrolling.
e: apparently that what it's like on the website too, so just me being an idiot.

and his last for QuickStep, which makes it a lovely symmetry that his first win back at QuickStep was in the same town

After the last win Mark visited a local school, and they have a sign post commemorating that visit to inspire the kids. Mark visited last night to correct it

I am a football fan and England winning that game was great. However, I agree with @joefm, Cav's win was even better!

Cav's speech after his win was inspiring. I wonder if Froomey watched it and thought - 'I too can return to top form'.

That was an absolutely phenomenal finish!!!

Watched it live (shouting, tears etc). Watched the highlights and I was still on the edge of the sofa even though I knew what happened. (More shouting, tears).

What a day.

Great win for Cav but you gotta feel sorry for Van Moen! So close yet so far away...

Never expected Cav to be able to pull that off, so was rooting for the breakaway up until the 200m to go point....

Couldn't have been a better orchestrated result! And just nearby his commemorative signpost as well!!

I thought the same about Froome when I listened to how Cav never gave up on himself.
