I saw this tip on YouTube, just used it and it works beautifully

Get a long breaker bar, 8 ml socket on the end of it. Put the left hand pedal on top of a block of wood. Sit on the rear tire and simply lean down on the end of the breaker bar. Literally a job I've been putting off for weeks was done in about five minutes. Now I have the right tools I actually prefer sram cranks to Shimano from an insulation point of view

I posted this same tip just a few days ago to help someone with an FSA crank 😁

It is so simple and effective.

Although just to note I think I did my SRAM and our FSA ones with the right hand pedal forward with the wood on that side (iirc that's with the installation bolt in the left hand crank arm) but might be my memory playing tricks as I think some SRAM cranks have the bolt on the right?

I wish I'd known how to do this when I installed my power metre. I managed to garotte myself on the top tube!  Doing it this way was actually fairly civilised

Better at keeping the bottom bracket cosy during winter?

Seriously though, I way prefer Hollowtech, just two bolts and a preload, it couldn't be simpler/quicker.

Even with the right tool - By the sound of it, I think I watched the same video, Shimano's version is still easier.

Posted this method before but I stick a rod into the NDS crank axle then use a 1m ish length of wood braced between that and the NDS pedal to oppose the (extended) socket undoing the drive side bolt. Two long levers make short work of it - maybe I should do a YouTube video...

Remove Sram cranks and replace with Shimano.

I might get told I'm a bad person but my technique is to take off the pedal, refit it on the back of the crank, wrap it in a cloth and use the chain stay to hold the crank still as I undo (and refit) the bolt.
