Has anyone ridden this in the last year or so?
I'm heading that way this weekend and fancy doing something other than the usual Torridon ride. I've heard that the Tollaidh was a nice ride, but that Hurricane Bertha made a bit of a mess of it and that large sections are no longer rideable. Is this true, should I bother with it?
Cheers.
Given tales from the 2015 HTR I've avoided it.
Cool, cheers Colin.
Looks like I'll be giving Lochan Fada and Gleann Bianasdail another go then.
There's the ride in to Carnmore or from the Gairloch road into Loch na h'Oidche too, though the bothy at the end of the Loch is now closed to the public.
Aye, I did that a few years ago........I avoided the bog on the return leg though 😀
There's the path out Redpoint as well that I've not done yet.
Still plenty of choice.
Not ridden for over a year so can't comment on current condition. Was always a few bits on the DH were either washed out/too rutted/beyond (my) riding ability anyway. Unless you're Danny Mac you'd be off the bike at some points anyway. Still a cracking run though.
I did the Tollaidh in 2014, having ridden in to Carnmore over the top from Kinlochewe and Letterewe then out via the nice singletrack and nasty cowshit bog to Poolewe. I remember thinking the Tollaidh would have been better on an unloaded bike with some suspension and a front brake. I enjoyed it nonetheless - but mainly for the scenery.
I will be riding light and on an 'enduro sled' so I may give it a go.
I'll report back next week.
Cheers all.

Agreed. I never thought it was that great a ride with the difficulties being short and hard to make a good loop out of.
Rode it last year in August in the dry and it was almost all rideable and I really enjoyed it, it seemed to flow really well and was a good part of an excellent day; rode it a year or two before when it was wet and there was little grip on the rocks so ended up walking a lot more including some downhill stretches and did not enjoy the riding nearly as much although the scenery is excellent as mentioned. Wasn't trying to do a loop either time, both times just north / west to south / east.
I also rode it in August last year, and after reading the reports on how washed out it was I was pleasantly surprised. It was wet and quite muddy, but good fun and the views are great.
There were bits I didn't ride, but that was more to with lack of skills than anything else. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.
