About to start the assembly of a sliding dropout build and read somewhere that that threadlock should be used.
I've not used it before on sliding dropouts (Pipedream Sirius) but this time feel I should give it a try ..... ๐ ๐
So .....
Which stuff do I need?
threadlock or grease? one or the other. ๐
222 or something similar will be fine.
It's torque/tension that holds them and stops slipping - grease will help and be easier to adjust than loctite.
grease the threads to stop them seizing and get some nord-lock washers to stop the bolts loosening.
Cheers folks ๐
Will look into getting some nord-lock washers now 8)
I just used standard blue threadlock on mine to stop them loosening; I just want them to stay put for a geared setup.
The blue threadlock should be breakable should I need to move/change them at anytime. If you want to slide them regularly though I'd imagine that threadlock's not the best idea.
I found the best technique was to use grease and then the following:
Tighten the adjusters to get the dropout in the right place
Tighten the side bolts that are supposed to hold the dropout in place
Re-tighten the adjusters so that they press into the dropout a little
Don't overdo step 3, but it does really help to stop them from rattling loose.
