they're certainly cheap but are they #rap ? looking at acquiring some inexpensive kit for a try out 29er build but don't like to waste money .
Worth a punt ?
your thoughts please

at that price I dont think you can really go far wrong.

they dont specify butted spokes, but even straight guage DTs arent bad (Ive built a wheel with them with no probs)

You can easily service the deore hubs and its worth opening them up and repacking with best marine grease. You might want to check spoke tension yourself just to be happy its nice and even.

The rims at 17mm width arent going to give you a great tyre footprint, but they'll be OK. I prefer at least 25mm.

If you build a really cheap 29er though, dont be surprised if it doesnt live up to billing. After all if you built a super cheap 26er would you think it was the bees knees? Try and avoid heavy lumpen steel frame like the GT Peace or redline monocog.

Damnit, why were there no cheap 29er wheels around when I was deciding whether to go 26 or 29 on my replacement bike!

Merlin have also got XT disc hubs with Stans ZTR 355 rims in 29er for £135 using VIP10 if you can stomach white rims?

Oh yeah I think you have to take 15mm front, but an excellent deal IMHO?

yes I saw the XT deal and was trying to ignore the fact that the rims were white when I suddenly noticed the 15mm requirement .Good point re the rim width stoner ..maybe not ideal. Don't like to do do cheap but if I can get good value well ..shame not to!
