I quite like the thought of putting my cycking ramblings down on a Blog, anyone else do it?

Any hints and tips?

Probably just use Google's one unless anyone has any other recommendations.

Thanks.

Wordpress.

Be prepared for no-one to read it, accept that, write it for yourself.

If it's good, others might read it eventually.

I kept one for a while whilst recovering, I found Wordpress easy to use, and looks ok to read after

Jase I do one, just like to recap stuff years down the line. Also handy as you age, thinking that race was last year when it was five years ago 😳

Wordpress +1.

Wordpress.com if you want something simple, free and still really customisable.
Wordpress.org + web host for something really powerful (if that's your thing).

Having very few visitors is a god send, as it saves you getting addicted to refreshing the stats page 🙂

You'd get more views if you told us what your blog is called so we can take a look 🙂

Consider using Google+ as a blog. More likely to get people reading it and interacting with you. That's kind of what I do and it works for me.

I suppose you just ask people here for recommendations.

I have to say though, you don't really sell yourself so well on your "About Me" section, if you are looking to gain a readership.

Maybe instead of putting yourself down, you could go down the line of mystique and intrigue, the lone cyclist who out in nature changes gear to a higher state of consciousness in which the deepest secrets of the universe are revealed and which you are about to reveal to us in your blog? That kind of thing.

The odd photo would be nice too. Doesn't have to be of you though, of trees, cake, that kind of thing.

Jase - Sort your spelling out mate 😉

My brain works in a way that focusses on spelling and grammar (did some of those personality tests that confirm it!).

Feb 14th
"site" = sight
"assent" = ascent

In the first couple of paras.

Sorry to be picky, but it makes it difficult for me to read.

[goes off to research the word "anal"]

Am thinking of doing a blog myself, so I'll open myself up to STW at some point 🙂

I've done one on growing my own veg on my allotment for just over a year (www.realmensow.co.uk. Currently getting about 2k visits a month.

I enjoy it, and doing a blog is a good record of what I've done over the last year or so. Reading and commenting on other people's blog is also enjoyable, especially as the tele is so crap on a winter's evening.

I’ve found its good to have a purpose, angle or a project to get interest and readers. I spent the year working out how much money my allotment saved me. Kind of involving people in finding something out or a target, rather than ‘I did this, then I did that’.

Commenting on other people’s blogs, using Twitter and joining a likeminded forum are all good ways of building up a readership – if that, of course, is what you want to do. I’m slowly coming around to the notion that it’s just nice to write down what’s in my head.

Another good tip is try to make your posts useful at the beginning. I did lots of how to, top tips for this posts which helped get people to read. GYO is something lots of people are trying at the mo, so are looking for info. Cycling is similar in that respect.

Once people are reading and interacting I’ve found you get a bit more leeway to be more personal and talk about yourself.

Install google analytics and keep an eye on your visits for clues to what people are interested in and where they visits are coming from.

Keep plugging away, as it takes a while and the vast majority of blogs end up getting left in cyberspace never to be touched again.

And ignore the people who just call it self indulgent dribble. You’ll get that. It’s not, its fun and well worth sticking at IMO.

Cheers jonostevens, some good tips that I'll take on board, impressed with the 2k.

TBH I think writing down what I'm thinking/feeling is the aim and other people reading it is a ' nice to have'.

Would also be great to look back in the future.

OG - Be riding LBRCC in everything but cross as feel loyalty towards Team MK due to cx training they put on which really helped me. Not doing RR tomorrow but have one eye on next weeks which I assume will have a large LBRCC presence due to location???

I'll plug OG's blog seeing as he isn't: http://www.smilerbiker.blogspot.com/
