Is there any shop where you can try them?
I'm not a helmet wearer generally speaking, but there is the odd occasion where I should probably have one..

My local halfords has lots, but they are mainly road helmets or kids helmets..no where seems to have a good stock of mtb helmets to try on, as in ones with better rear head protection.

Best places I've found have been the shops at trail centres. BPW had a very good range. Prices tend to be a bit higher though.

I figure a ball park of £30-70

Any shop should let you try them.

The "more coverage" thing is exaggerated, it's often 1/2-1" more.

Order a bunch from CRC/Wiggle/anywhere with free returns. Send back the ones you don't like.

Could try Evans in Leeds town centre by station, or there is a cycle shop under snow and rock, cycle surgery I think.

Sowerby brothers in mirfield have got a fair few specialised mtb helmets, Evans in Leeds and cycelsurgery have an alright selection too..

Was in cyclesurgery last week and they have a basic selection too.
The place in saltaire usually had a good selection including 661 / giro but not been in a few years

Or as others have said measure your forehead circumference and order two sizes online crc have the ixs trail that is popular

I'd almost be interested in that Ton but I fear it might be sized too big

Is that try on and then buy if you find a good fit, or just try on for size and then buy elsewhere?

If the latter then you're probably part of the reason that shops don't carry much stock...
