As a follow up to the winter shoe thread, does anybody know of any thin but particularly warm socks? I can’t go a shoe size bigger because I am at the top of the size range already so need thin socks! I have tried many of the usual suspects but hope there is some I have missed

I've just bought some Madison socks from Biketart on offer. Little bit thicker for autumn/winter rides but first impressions are that they're spot on. Definitely don't seem overly thick vs my summer Banana Industries ones.

Not from experience of them exactly, but Bridgedale Winter Weight MTB socks? Not cheap but will last longer than most things.

I have some of these Fizik ones which are basically a normal sock but the sole is woven really thick and dense. They're noticibly warmer than regular socks and I wear them on the bike even down to about 4 degrees (might double up with another paid if any colder). Have found them better than considerably thicker merino socks. Galibier also do some (fire feet?) which get good recommendations but never used them.

The link only has XS left, so unless you have small feet then it's just for illustrative purposes.

I bought a 3 pack of isobaa socks from sports pursuit.

Thinner than normal socks

A bit warmer than normal socks.

A bit pricier than normal socks

Try using bread bags as a vapour barrier liner, you will get sweaty feet but they will be warmer!

I've had a few pairs of Rapha merino socks for years.  Even the thicker ones are quite thin (but give me the reassurance of a thick pair) and they stay warm when wet.

Endura BaaBaa Merino socks are warm for their thickness. They do me well until it gets a bit colder, at which point it's time for bigger shoes and the Woolie Boolies.

I have some smartwool cold run socks. They are warm but not bulky.

as said above, plastic bags keep your feet warm. I used to swear by them in my youth.

Any sock recommendation surely has to include darn tough on the shortlist - find a style you like, at the price you like, someone, somewhere always has them on sale

Guaranteed for life in the UK

Then as mentioned above by others, go on a deep dive with Andy Kirkpatrick about the merits of plastic bags on your feet (Vapor Barrier Liner)

Surprisingly, the most popular VBL socks are humble plastic shopping bags.

If you can't go thicker than a summer sock then merino is probably your only choice, maybe with a silk liner sock underneath (they're super thin but add a bit of warmth). I use Albion merino socks but they have a fairly thick sole so might not work for you. I assume you're using overshoes already?

I have some DHB Aeron merino socks that I wear when it's cold but I'm putting tight shoes on.

Still available via Sports Direct, Evens or Frasers I believe, if you want to give them your money (and they go big enough for your feet).
